Many times when we are helping a family to better understand why their child is behaving a certain way, we ask parents to lay out to us what is happening right before the behavior, what the behavior looks like, and then what happens right after the behavior.
This helps us see WHY a child might be behaving in certain way, which can then lead us to a strategy for addressing the problem. Parents aren’t typically responding in the wrong way, but they are usually responding at the wrong time.
